Krystofar, a guildie, a friend and more importantly, a fellow hunter, has decided to share some of his own witty musing to the DC universe. Yay!
When was the last time you looked at your /played? It’s been months since I last looked at mine. In truth, I’m a little afraid to. I play Warcraft a lot, but I have no problem squeezing in Real Life activities. When I’m with my RL friends I’m careful not to discuss WOW at great length, if at all. The main reason is that non-gamers simply are not interested in my virtual pastime. The secondary reason is that the question inevitably arises; “It sounds like you play all the time. How many hours would you play a week?” I would NEVER answer that truthfully again. The reason I say never “again” is that when I have told people how much I play, their reactions are oddly universal. Their mouths drop open for a moment and then they utter variations on “Oh my god… think of all the things you could have done with that time.” Then they are usually compelled to rhyme off these so-called “better” things. Some suggestions have been:
1. Reading (I do read everyday)
2. Volunteer (I do volunteer work for at least one charity every year)
3. Go dancing (I dance with my wife or step-daughter while we cook dinner all the time)
4. Learn a new language
Everything I’ve written so far has been a pre-amble to point #4. Why do so many people think I should be learning a new language? I have barely mastered English, my mother tongue, and now I’m to bore/annoy people in other languages? For the record, I have tried to learn French and can actually understand quite a bit. In Italian, I can give directions to or from any Roman train station. I once took a conversational Japanese course that left me with the expertise to confidently say, “thank you” and “I am a red car” (I have yet to find a use for the latter statement).
The ironic point I’m trying to make (finally) is that I HAVE learned a new language, albeit, a completely useless one. The language of Warcraft. Don’t believe me? Try reading the following. If you understand it, you’re an experienced WOW player. Try reading it to someone who doesn’t and ask him or her if they understand.
“Yesterday, I’m in Skettis doing my dailies and farming netherweave and this Tauren shammy tries to gank me when I’m at half health. He didn’t realize I had guildies nearby. I call out for help on vent. Breana drops a frost trap and hit’s him with a viper sting; Fem intercepts and sunder, bash, mortal strike, then /fart (she can’t help herself); I pop my trinket and then aimed shot FTW! We camp and pwn that n00b for the next 15 minutes; just repeat it with every rez until he logs. Fear our 1337ness! Roffle!
That night we raided Kara and made it to Shade without a single wipe. I survived the AOE this time and was hoping for phat lootz. The only things that dropped were clothie gear. Nobody needed or greeded it, so Saak, he’s our holy pally, de’d it. We just rolled on the shards before hearthing to Shatt.”
Hmmm… I just re-read what I’ve written. What a geek. Maybe I should get out more? Ha! Who am I kidding? We’re raiding Kara again tonight!
I am a red car,
Krystofar

Yea, my coworkers don't understand my fascination with WoW either and can't seem to understand the amount of time I play.
My response to them is "How many hours a day do you spend watching Nascar, Football, Baseball, Hockey and all the other sports you feel compelled to watch?"
This usually shuts them up as they try the "it's my hobby" replay and I say the msame thing back to them
Good Morning
Since I'm Krystofar's wife, let me clarify those 4 points he made:)
1. Reading (I do read everyday)
(READING ABOUT TALENT POINT TREES, HUNTER TACTICS OR CHECKIN OUT THE ARMORY..DOES NOT COUNT AS READING)
2. Volunteer (I do volunteer work for at least one charity every year) (VOLUNTEERING TO PICK UP CHINESE FOOD FOR DINNER IS AN APPRECIATED TASK BUT I WOULDN'T CONSIDER IT A PUBLIC SERVICE)
3. Go dancing (I dance with my wife or step-daughter while we cook dinner all the time)(I DON'T THINK I WOULD CONSIDER WHAT YOU DO IN THE KITCHEN DANCING...SPASTIC MOVEMENTS LIKE A CRACK ADDICT ARE MORE FOR VISUAL ENTERTAINMENT)
4. Learn a new language (PUT YOUR LAUNDRY AWAY!!!! NOPE, HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD I SAID)
hehehehe all jokes aside...we love to play:)
FEM
Too funny. You sound like my Wife.
1. Yeah right, what gamer doesn't read?
2. Wife, Kids, Laundry, who has time to volunteer for anything?
3. Dancing is good even if you look like a freak doing it.
4. Learn a new language?? wtf? Telling somebody to learn a new language is insulting. 'Don't you have something better to do than hang out with me and waste my time? Pft, go learn a new language and get outta my face.'
Everytime someone mentions to me that I should get off the computer more, I inevitably say... what? And go watch TV? That's better than sitting, SOCIALIZING with my friends... how?
Get out more! And do what... hang out at a bar and drink? Spending more on 2 drinks than I would a whole month of WoW? That's not good for my bank account or liver. Or lungs for that matter. You know how smoke filled bars are?
Not to say I don't get out. I do. I especially like to go hit up the apartment swimming pool after saturday raiding. I grab an RL friend (who also plays) and we go spend an hour or so -swimming-. And talking. And floating around. And generally relaxing and having a grand old time outside of WoW.
What I fail at understanding is how people think sitting on your ass infront of the tv or on a barstool is somehow -better- than sitting on your ass infront of the computer. =) Someone please help me understand that weird convoluted line of thinking.

I am SO going to use that!!! I love it!
@Grumpy
Excellent Point!
@Fem
LOL...now I know to use against him on vent!
@Suzanne:
I too, ask for permission to use the "bar" comment. I will use it next time my mother looks and says I need to leave my house.
This is your blog. Use what you wish! *lol*
My experience with that particular question stems from friends who spend a lot of time in bars. And you see, when I was in high school, -I- spent a lot of time in bars/clubs. Yeah, I did dance. But I also spent time in their quiet rooms having drinks. So it added up to, one night of bar hopping/clubbing: 5-10$ cover charge per club. 5$ for a coke (6-8$ for a typical drink if I was of drinking age back then). A typical saturday night could see me spending $30 or more. And when I lacked cover charge, I hung outside the club with 'friends' like Mr Spit and Mr Swallow.
These two were biker guys who hung outside this one particular club and harassed all the girls as to whether they spit or swallow.
Yeah. These are the kind of people I really want to hang around instead of play WoW on my weekends.
I don't think so. =)
