Talbuks are People Too!

So one day at work, I sauntered down to BRK’s site and notice a great post about trapping. The last line of the post caught my interest and started my wheels to spin:

Are you running around Nagrand killing the Talbuks? Try chain-trapping one tonight. See how many traps you can use in a row. Two? Three? Can you chain-trap a Talbuk to Halaa? To Aldor Rise?

This caught my attention for two reasons.

  1. Krys (our favorite hunter) and I have been practicing chain-trapping in Nagrand not even a week before and managed to do a double-double trap. That is right, four, count them four, traps! Which, I know the geek shows, made me very giggly for about two days. (DC trivia-the picture in the banner is a screenshot of that moment.)

  1. The idea of creating a chain trap from Telaar to Halaa created a challenge that I was eager to try.

This of course prompted an email to Krys in the middle of the day:

I was reading this, and I thought it would be a fun way of getting the hunters together to practice our chain-trapping. What do you think? Should we make it into a competition of who can get a talbuk from Telaar to Haala :P (maybe as a prize we can give out a few stacks of bullets or several stacks of meat or fruit for pets??)

Let me know what you think, oh wise one

To which he responded:

Oh that is awesome! I have to go try that!!!! hehehe

Several hours passed, then I received this gem:

You'll love this. I went to the southern entrance to Halaa and put down a trap and allowed it to cool for a bit. I shot the Talbuk that was closest to Halaa and waited.

Of course he came at me and was trapped as per usual. I hit Aspect of the Cheetah and ran as fast as my little legs would take me to just outside shooting range and put down another.

Talbuk thawed, charged, popped the new trap. So far, so good. I did the "rinse, repeat" thing a few times. Twice I shot him with a Concussive shot to slow him down but I brought him all the way to Telaar.

I popped a trap close to the bridge into town and Timmy the Talbuk ran right into it yet again.

So, now I'm standing in the middle of the bridge feeling pretty smug with my mad chain-trapping skillz. I know that as soon as the trap breaks, he'll come again and the dutiful guards will end his poor, miserable, chilled life.

The trap breaks... but the guards don't give him a second look. Timmy Talbuk CHARGES at me, hits me for all he's worth and sends me flying through the air, OVER the rail of the bridge.

At this point, I utter a Wile E. Coyote-like "Muther!" and down I plummet. I quickly glance below, praying to see churning water. Nope...just rocks.

In the last few micro-seconds before I died, I'm sure I heard.... fading into the distance... what might have been Talbuk laughter.

That is some amazing trapping skills. I wish I hadn't deleted my first Hunter so I wouldn't be going through the process of leveling a new one to 70.

Great blog by the way. I am going to add it to mine under the good blogs to read.

@Otik. I really enjoy your site as well and found it this morning via BRK. I meant to link to you tonight, but you beat me to it!

@Trojanguy,Kestrel and Hyoneeye:

Krys couldn't seem to understand why I would want to post the email. He said, "So you want people to read about how stupid I was."

I told him, "You trapped that sucker all the way there. No, my dear friend, it is all about the IRONY."

He just grunted.

I have forwarded these comments to Krys so he will be more willing to share :)

Thanks again

After chain trapping a talbuk to the Aldor rise, I've got the itch to take one to HfP... think that one I might need help to pre clear the ravagers at the passes...

and like others I followed BRK's bread crumbs :-)

Another Dwarf Chick!!! Hell yes!!!

It is amazing that you said that, Mae. The same night Krys had his "accident", I decided that it would be a great photo op, if I got a Talbuk to HH. I made it as far as Shat. Could have gone further, but stopped for several reasons. If you make it to HH, let me know!

Also, if you decide to do it, take a couple of guidies to help you clear out. I was glad I had Fem and Nya, our warr and lock to help me clear Bone Wastes on the way to Shat. It made the process so much less stressful.

Yes, I was there when Breana brought a Talbuk to Shatt. People came around trying to figure out how it got there, I took pictures (still in shock myself I think. It looked odd and out of place down by the BG signup.

First I thought she was trying to "save the talbuks" and was working with Green Peace. Hmmm nope thats not it. Perhaps she loved talbuks and was going to give him a good home?? NOPE thats not it either. Or perhaps it was her evil hunter nature making a poor Talbuk walk for miles to what fate you might ask???

I'm sure Miss Breana will share those dark moments with you.
